Protective Styles versus Low Manipulation Styles

Let's start with the meanings of the two. A protective style is a style that is usually concealed by being tucked or pinned up away from you shoulders or articles of clothing. A few examples of protective styles are buns, bantu knots, sew-ins, etc. A low manipulation style is that require minimal upkeep. For instance, roller sets, twist outs, braids, etc. Some people may argue and say that braids are a protective style because they don't require a lot of maintenance. Technically, braids aren't considered a protective style unless the ends of the braids are concealed. A protective style to you may not be a protective style to others. I really hope I helped you all determine between the two.

My Questionnaire From LovinOurTexture

Your Hair Is: Relaxed
Hair Length: Classic Length
Porosity: Medium
Hair Texture: Coily
Hair Width: Medium
Color-Treated: No
If Yes, what do you color your hair with and how often?
No, however I would love to try a color. I am stuck on what color and brand of product.

What is your favorite hair product(s) or product line?
ORS The One, formally known as Organic Root Stimulators
Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner

What is your Daily Hair Regimen?
Daily?!? Hmm I usually moisturize my hair with ORS Moisturizing Hair Lotion and put it in a simply style whether its hanging straight down or in a ponytail. I am very simple and boring on a daily basis. Moisturizing and Sealing at night with ORS Hair Lotion and Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

What is Your Wash Day Regimen?
I am slowly changing products. Wash days for me are between 2 and 3 weeks. My usual or old wash day consist of ORS Shampoo and Conditioner with Cantu Shea Butter as my leave in. I part my hair into two sections, wet each side, and apply shampoo once. I use the conditioner as stated on the packaging. After I wash it out I then apply my leave and also use it as a deep conditioner for 10 to 15 minutes under the dryer.
Recently, I used the Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner. I absolutely loves these two products. The shampoo strips all the dirt from my hair and leaves it feeling squeaking clean. I can't forget the smell oh my gosh, I love it.

What do you love about your hair?
This is a really hard question for me. I would have to say the length and being one of many to prove that black girls can have long hair whether you are natural or relaxed. To prove to none believers that all black girls/women don't have to depend on weaves. We wear it because its a want more than a need.

What is your favorite hair style?
I am very boring and simple when it comes to hairstyles because I am afraid of changing many hairstyle because of my fear that the health and grow. For example, using heat every other day by curling it will possibly break it out. If you see me my hair would either be straight or in a ponytail, but my favorite style is bantu knots. I have a love/hate relationship with buns because sometimes they come out perfect and other times they don't.

What are some of the things that you have removed from your regimen?
I haven't really removed anything. I am more so adding things instead. I have never had a strict regimen with a bunch of products because I was too afraid to try them. I only stick to what I know. Slowly but surely I will be removing sulfate shampoos once I find a good one.

Give any piece of advice that you wish someone had given you about hair.
I think that my hair would have been much thicker if I wouldn't have used alot of heat on my hair without a heat protectant. Don't use petroleum because it clogs up your pores. Incorporate oils into your regimen (i.e., coconut, olive oil, and castor).
Less Heat! No Petroleum! Add Oils! Health over Length! Patience is key!

What is your hair goal(s) and how do plan to achieve it? If you've achieved your goal(s), what was it and how did you achieve it?
I have reached my goal length, but it's in the shape of a V. I plan on growing the rest of it so that it is even without having to cut it and start over. I would my hair to be a little bit thicker than it is. Castor Oil will work wonders to help me with that.

Where can we find you on Social Media?
I have a blog which is under construction. It doesn't get much love from me. I have to get on the right track and post regularly. However the link is
Google+ : (all links to all my social media is here as well)

Feel free to email me with any questions that you may have if you are social media shy at

Hair Regimen

I have been contemplating about posting a "regimen" because to me I don't have one, but everyone always ask me that famous question of "What's your regimen?" and I reply by saying I don't really have one.
Well today I am going to attempt to give you guys what I consider a "REGIMEN".... MY REGIMEN.

WARNING: My regimen may not be to your liking and it may not work for you. I am simply posting this to inform those who asked about regimen. I am not responsible for anything that these products may do to your hair (good or bad). You have been warned. -smiles-

If you didn't know, I am relaxed. I have been relaxed for 14 years. I have been thinking about returning natural, but that was only a mere thought. I can't even sustain 6 month post hair so there is no way I can maintain fully natural hair.

I am not on a hair journey, but if I was it would be to maintain health and gain thickness. However, I have been seeing growth since 2009 (Mid-back length) and now 2014 (Tailbone Length).

My Hair Type: Combination of 3c/4a/4b
(Hair Type is your natural texture. If you are relaxed it will be the texture of your new growth.) For a better understanding on hair types click here .

Relaxer: ORS formerly Organic Root Stimulators Olive Oil Normal Strength
Minimum 12 weeks
I have done a 16 weeks stretch and a 6 month stretch (twice).

Relaxer every 12 weeks (minimum)
Wash every 3 weeks (YES 3 WEEKS)
Co-Wash every 2 weeks
Deep Condition after every wash. I can never get enough. (15 minutes minimum to 1 hour, but you can go as long as you like) Favorite conditioner, a little oil, plastic cap and sit under the dryer for 15 to 30 minutes or without the dryer for 1 hour minimum to 3 hours.
Moisturize & Seal Every other day (not every day like I'm suppose to.. I forget)
Detangle with a wide tooth comb
Trim my ends when needed
Wear a satin scarf/bonnet to bed every night

I alternate between the following products:
ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo
Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Moisture and Shine Shampoo (leaves my hair squeaky clean and light weight)
Mane and Tail Shampoo

ORS Replenishing Conditioner
Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Moisture and Shine Conditioner
